"Yosuke's book, "Change Your BreathTo Change Your Sound" is extremely valuable for all of the information about the anatomy of the human body with regard to breathing for musicians. The majority of musicians do NOT have a good understanding of the mechanics of the respiratory system so this will be most helpful to them. In addition, his designed exercises to help take unnecessary tensions away from the body and even in the mind, remind me of other approaches such as the Alexander Technique and the Feldenkreis books. I can see great value in not only the book, but also being able to attend one of his workshops. Thank you , Yosuke."

This book is an absolute must for any wind instrumentalist. It is the most comprehensive collection of useful information I have ever seen in one book. This information has helped me to improve my tone, control and endurance tremendously. This book will definitely help any wind player at any level.

Wayne Bergeron (tp)
"CHANGE YOUR BREATH TO CHANGE YOUR SOUND !" is the most thorough and well organized book on breathing I have encountered. No matter what level you are at as a wind instrument player or singer, the techniques in this book will improve your overall sound as well as making it more effortless to achieve the quality of sound we all strive for. An important lesson Learned from this book is..."It's not about the amount of air, but how we use the air." Bravo Yosuke, you've really hit a home run with this book.

Coming out of his intensive study in martial arts and yoga, Yosuke Kurosaka has done extensive research into the mechanics of breathing . The techniques and concepts presented in his new book "Change Your Breath To Change Your Sound", give valuable understanding into the breathing process for musicians on all instruments. Teaching the crucial techniques of breathing are often overlooked or based on out dated ideas. This manual delivers new insight with clear and practical exercises to help players increase their breath control.

The book 'Change Your Breath to Change Your Sound' by Yosuke Kurosaka really gave me much needed insight on how I breathe. As a professional saxophonist, I was pleasantly surprised at the positive difference it made in my breathing and in my understanding of the physics of breathing. I was able to greatly improve my breathing techniques and my saxophone sound after reading Mr. Kurosaka's book. For a man who breathes for a living, that was a very important development! I highly recommend this book to any and all musicians, athletes, yoga students and any one else interested in understanding the importance and benefits of proper breathing techniques. We can all learn and benefit from this book by Yosuke Kurosaka!

Bravo! What a great book. "Change Your Breath to Change Your Sound" is a must read for every horn player who is serious about their sound. With Yosuke's extensive studies into martial arts and yoga, he has developed a book that helps improve all aspects of your playing. As an instrumentalist himself, he understands the physical needs of playing a wind instrument and the toll it can take on your body. With this book, he teaches you how to understand breathing and how to maximize your results for the best possible sound. I've incorporated several of his techniques into my own daily routine, and have seen improvement in all areas of my playing. Thank you Yosuke!!

The exercises in Yosuke,s book, Change your Breath to Change your Sound is a truly needed book for everyone interested in breathing, posture, and definitely improving your sound. I have practiced these exercises for several months and have applied them to my playing.
Welldone Yosuke and thank you.

(comment from Sal after several months)
I am thanking you because nowadays I stand The way You talk about standing. I use it when I play trumpet, the way you talk about it in your book. I talked to my teacher of Chi Gong and it is the same stance for strength and energy. Thank you and respect.

The five words: "Breathing is a deep activity" are clearly emphasized throughout Mr. Kurosaka's book, "Change Your Breath To Change Your Sound". As a professional trombonist, I couldn't agree more. Proper breathing equals successful performance yet, it is so often overlooked.

Yousuke created a comprehensive and organized program focusing on the efficiency of managing tension, maximizing lung capacity and maintaining a relaxed state.
"Change Your Breath To Change Your Sound" skillfully embraces the gentle balance between the philosophical and the physical approach to breathing and sound production. The addition of the techniques included in this book continue making a positive contribution towards my teaching, as well as personal performance.
This is a must read for all singers, wind instrumentalists and ensemble leaders looking to improve their sound and projection.
Afterall, breathing is a deep activity!

Breathing has been misunderstood on so many levels of playing and learning music. Too often we assume that breathing is just a part of our natural talent. It's often overlooked or ignored by the old "Filler up and let it rip" attitude. Although it might be easier for awhile, eventually that concept will wear you down and limit versatility and evolution on your instrument. In order to maintain a long career that can adapt gracefully as you age or to constantly improve and understand other styles --- breathing is the rhythm, sound, and foundation most needed. Yosuke Kurosaka's book on breathing is a necessity for every musician, especially if they sing or play a wind instrument. I have had to change my sound several times during my career and the way I moved air was most crucial. Yosuke's methods are now my" bible" on breathing more musically as well as athletically. I highly recommend "Change Your Breath to Change Your Sound" to all serious student and professional level musicians.

FIVE-FOR-ONE EXERCISE
【SAMPLE】Five-for-one lead message

Let's start Five-for-one exercise.

First, allow yourself to enjoy Child-time. Pause your hectic schedule, relax, and float on your quiet world, just like a little child.

We're going to do Shouldering exercise. This exercise softens the tension on your upper back and neck. Stay and enjoy your comfort zone in Child-time.

Squeeze your shoulders up when I say "Turn it on". and let them "drop" on "Turn it off". Whisper "Bo-toe" to encourage your shoulders to really "drop" with the weight of your arms.

Let's try. Turn it on, squeeze your shoulders up........ Turn it off, Bo-toe.
Turn it on, bring the shoulders up...... Turn it off. Bo-toe. let it all go.
Turn it on, shorten your shoulder muscles up...... Turn it off. Bo-toe.
Turn it on, bring your shoulder blades up...... and Turn it off. Bo-toe.

You should feel nicely melted after this exercise. Now, we're going to do Fish-swim exercise. Slightly and slowly, swing your spine from right to left, one vertebra at a time. If it's too difficult, just bend your upper body from left to right loosely. Say "Terray" to help your body to relax more.

Here we go. Let your neck bones, your cervical vertebrae swing from left to right. One vertebrae at a time......
Shift your focus down to your upper back, move your thoracic vertebrae from right to left......
Moving down to the lower back. sway your lumber vertebrae and sacral bone left to right...... You don't have to push yourself too hard. Do at your own pace.

Okay, pause.

Let's do 1-2-3-2-1. We're going to lengthen and shorten the duration of the breaths.Inhale through the nose, and exhale through the mouth. Bring your Teisetsu down on the inhale, and pull it up on the exhale. Let's give it a try.

Inhale for a measure... Exhale for a measure...
Inhale for two measures... Exhale for two measures...
Inhale for three measures... Stay relaxed... Exhale for three measures...
Inhale for two measures... Exhale for two measures...
Inhale for a measure... Exhale for a measure
